Shayne Stevenson is an NHL Alumni, former professional hockey player, and founder of 50 Mission Cast.

Born and raised in Ontario’s hockey culture and developed through Aurora Minor Hockey, Shayne was drafted into the NHL and went on to play professionally with organizations including the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Today, Shayne brings together his lifelong passions for hockey, fishing, storytelling, and the outdoors through 50 Mission Cast — offering guided musky and walleye fishing charters, French River adventures, and Lake Scugog water tours aboard “The Barilko,” a fully customized 30-foot tri-toon.

From trophy musky fishing on the historic French River to family-friendly boating experiences in the Kawartha Lakes, 50 Mission Cast blends elite fishing technology, Northern Ontario wilderness, and unforgettable storytelling into one experience.

Named in tribute to Canadian hockey history and inspired by The Tragically Hip’s “50 Mission Cap,” 50 Mission Cast represents adventure, tradition, and life on the water.

Shayne Stevenson’s connection to Ontario’s historic French River began in the 1980s when his family made the region their favorite summer getaway. Growing up surrounded by the beauty of Northern Ontario’s lakes, islands, and wilderness sparked a lifelong passion for fishing, boating, and the outdoors.

It was on the French River where Shayne caught his very first musky — a moment that changed his life forever and began a passion that would eventually become 50 Mission Cast.

Today, Shayne is recognized as one of Ontario’s most passionate musky fishing guides, offering fully guided fishing charters and water adventures across the French River, Lake Nipissing, Lake Scugog, Port Perry, and the Kawartha Lakes.

From Professional Hockey to Professional Fishing Guide

Before becoming a full-time fishing guide, Shayne built an incredible hockey career as a first-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins and later played professionally for the Tampa Bay Lightning and several teams around the world.

As an NHL Alumni, Shayne brings the same energy, competitiveness, and dedication from professional hockey into every charter experience aboard The Barilko.

The Barilko was named in honor of legendary Toronto Maple Leafs player Bill Barilko and inspired by the iconic Tragically Hip song “50 Mission Cap.”

In 2026, 50 Mission Cast expanded operations to include Lake Scugog and Port Perry, Ontario.

Unlike the rugged trophy-focused waters of the French River, Lake Scugog offers an incredible opportunity for beginner and intermediate musky anglers looking for action-packed days and the possibility of catching multiple muskies in a single trip.
